Naomi Watts Joins Daniel Craig Thriller

The Morgan Creek/Universal project follows a family that moves into what appears to be the ideal residence in small-town Connecticut. However, the husband (Craig) and wife (Watts) are disturbed to discover that their beautiful new home was the site of another family’s slaughter, believed to be at the hands of the husband who survived.

The script was written by David Loucka. Production is slated to begin February in Toronto. Watts is at Sundance this week for her ensemble drama “Mother and Child,” directed by Rodrigo Garcia. Sheridan last directed the Iraq-themed movie “Brothers.”

Naomi Tops List of Actresses to Invest In

Australian actress Naomi Watts, who starred in “The Ring,” King Kong,” and “Eastern Promises,” is the actress who provides the best return for a film studio, according to a list by Forbes.com.

With cash-strapped studios looking for return on their investments, Forbes.com compiled a list of the 10 actresses who provide the best bang for their buck.

They found actresses who commanded the highest prices, like Angelina Jolie who topped Forbes’ list of the best paid actresses after banking $27 million in a year, were outranked by those earning around $5 million and under for a film.

Watts, 41, topped the list after the analysis found she helped the box office make an estimated $44 for every $1 she was paid for her last three major films.

Jennifer Connelly, star of “”Blood Diamond” and “He’s Just Not That Into You,” came second with her films earning about $41 for each dollar she was paid and Rachel McAdams, of “The Notebook” and this year’s “The Time Traveler’s Wife,” came third with $30 for every $1 earned.

Fourth was Natalie Portman of the new “Star Wars” movies and “The Other Boleyn Girl” with her films making $28 for every $1 she was paid followed by Meryl Streep who made the top five due to the massive box office success of last year’s “Mamma Mia,” earning $27 for every $1 paid.

Rounding out the 10 were Jennifer Aniston ($26 per $1) while films by Halle Berry, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, and Hilary Swank all made $23 for every dollar they earned.

Forbes.com said it compiled its list by looking at the 100 biggest stars in Hollywood. To qualify each actress had to have starred in at least three movies in the past five years that opened in more than 500 theatres.

They looked at the star’s estimated earnings, each movie’s estimated budget, and box office, DVD and television earnings to figure out an operating income for each movie.

‘The International’ to Take Aim on Blu-ray this June

Sony Pictures is prepping a Blu-ray release of ‘The International,’ telling retailers to expect an early-June arrival for the action-thriller.

Making only a minor blip at the box office earlier this year with a $35 million domestic take, the Clive Owen-Naomi Watts starrer will receive a Blu-ray release on June 9, day-and-date with the standard DVD.

Tech specs will see a BD-50 dual-layer presentation with 1080/AVC MPEG-4 video and English Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround audio.

No word on extras, but watch for final details in the days ahead.

Suggested retail price for the Blu-ray has been set at $39.95.

Naomi Watts welcomes a Baby Boy

Naomi Watts and her partner Live Schreiber have welcomed their second child, a baby boy, just in time for Christmas.

The Australian actress gave birth on Saturday and a rep for the 40-year-old released a statement saying: ‘I can confirm Naomi and Live had a baby boy yesterday’. No details have been given yet of a name or weight.

Director Schreiber and Watts have been dating since 2005 when they met on the set of Chinese romantic drama, The Painted Veil and already have a boy together – Alexander Pete Schreiber, who was born in July last year.

A mom through and through, Watts proudly said of her first-born earlier this year: ‘He’s turning pages in the book. He’s crawling and standing up. He can wave. I read Goodnight Moon to him every night.’

Nicole and I ‘Compare Notes’ on Pregnancy

Nicole Kidman is preparing to give birth for the first time – and luckily she has Naomi Watts to talk her through it.

“Whenever you’re pregnant, you always call on your pregnant friends and compare notes,” the 39-year-old Watts – who gave birth to son Alexander Pete last July – told PEOPLE Monday at a press conference to discuss her new role as the face of Angel, a fragrance by designer Thierry Mugler. “It’s what happens in friendship.”

So will Kidman, 40 – who’s expecting her first child with husband Keith Urban – be a good mom?

“Of course!” said Watts. In fact, since the Oscar-winner has two adopted children, Isabella and Connor, with her ex-husband Tom Cruise, “She’s already a great mum.”

While little Alexander – whose dad is actor Liev Schreiber – didn’t put in an appearance at the event, Watts said he’s growing up fast.

“He’s turning pages in the book,” she said proudly. “He’s crawling and standing up. He can wave. I read Goodnight Moon to him every night.”
